Graphic Previews

Graphic Previews are used throughout Script Elephant to allow your creative team to upload a still frame that is representative of how a graphic will look when played on screen.

The benefits to uploading graphic previews include:

  • Those previews will be visible in the script view when hovering over each graphic
  • Those previews are visible in each graphic's detail page
  • Graphics that have previews uploaded can use the Graphics Review & Feedback functionality.

Creating Graphic Previews

To begin, use your team's preferred creative tools, such as Adobe Photoshop or After Effects to create still JPG or PNG files representing each graphic.

Each graphic's filename needs to include the unique identifier in their filenames for the graphic they represent.

Adobe After Effects support

If your team uses Adobe After Effects, you can create graphics in bulk using the paid plugin CompsFromSpreadsheet 5.

To do this, go the Graphics Table and choose Export TSV from the banner at the bottom. Import this TSV file into CompsFromSpreadsheet.

Uploading Graphic Previews

To upload a graphic preview image, you’ll first need to select the Graphics Tab from your Production Home Page. Then select Upload Previews.

Permissions

If you do not see the Graphics tab, then a staff member of this production may need to assign a role to you that allows you to upload graphic previews.

Next, select the Choose Files button to select one or multiple images.

If uploaded successfully, you will be redirected to an Upload Summary page.

Possible Errors

If you receive this error:

Could not detect a key in this filename. For example: [123.456]

This means that your file names need to include a valid unique identifier.

Script Elephant uses this identifier, including brackets, to match your preview with the correct graphic. Without it, Script Elephant will not be able to match that file to a graphic.

  • Example of an incorrect filename: CS Ms. Laila Kim.png
  • Example of a correct filename: [2.26] CS Ms. Laila Kim.png

Replacing old graphic previews

If you want to revise a graphic preview, you can upload a new version of that graphic by following these same steps again. It will upload it to the graphic and become the latest version.

This latest version will not have any feedback attached, so it will appear in the To Review section of the Review Graphics page.

All historical versions and any feedback left on those versions will still be visible from the See Another Version dropdown on the graphics detail page.

Deleting graphic previews

If you need to delete an uploaded graphic preview, navigate to that graphic's detail page, choose the version you want to delete from the See Another Version dropdown if needed, and then click Delete > Delete Preview.
